Headaches...

posted 11th Jun
I have had these hellacious headaches since I was in the hospital last week after I had my daughter.
They were worse there because the headaches turned into serious migraines- which were attributed to my pre-eclampsia- high blood pressure.
But I was sent home and I have been taking my procardia like I am supposed to, and yet I am STILL suffering a headache... This headache has stretched on for about 8 hours now... I had one last night that was moving in the direction of a migraine so I took the perscription I was given for fiorinal... However, that meant that I couldn't care for my baby and my husband had to take over the night duties... The fiorinal is STRONG- it makes my eyes dilate and my balance get thrown... it relieves the pain and lets me sleep, but I cannot take that stuff.
Now I have perscription strength motrin- but it does NOTHING...

Any other suggestions as to what I can do??

Is there anyone you can ask to give your head/neck a massage? Drink heaps of cold water.. I suffer from terrible migraines. SOme food triggers it, also the weather like overcast or too much sunlight...you might have to move in a darkened room...try to get as much sleep as you can when the baby is asleep...or get a bucket with ice cubes and get a small towel real cold and put that on your forehead and back of your neck. That helps me.

I will try all that... I have an ice gel pack in the freezer now... It hurts to look at the screen of the computer, but I felt like this may be the only place to find relief that won't interfere with my caring for little Zoe...
Thank you so much.
As soon as my husband comes home I'll ask him to rub me... he's a massage therapist, he should be good at that stuff. I wonder why he didn't volunteer sooner! I'm sure that he knows that he might be able to help my head...

Are you certain it isn't caused from the epi? Does it tend to go away when you lie down? If so, you may want to get it checked out in case it is from the epi because that'll need to be repaired.

!!

I took Percocet, it was enough that it helped ease my agony... but it didnt dope me up too much to take care of my son.
Pressure around the head and cold, keep hydrated, and neck rubs really do help a lot.
When i sleep at night, if i have the migraine, i stay sitting up since the blood pressure from laying down makes my head throb and i wrap a cold pack in a rolled up T-shirt around my eyes. It adds pressure and coolness, and sometimes brings the migraine down to a headache

Its a migraine for sure- not from the epi... it doesn't get better when I lie down...
However- thanks to the advice I got- I grabbed an ice gel pack for my neck and one for my forehead, put Zoe down for sleep, turned off the lights and drank a coke with my motrin...
and magically the headache started to subside in about 45 minutes!
I was so happy!
Thank you for the advice!!!!!
