Yeah the idea of them soaking in possibly poopy water grosses me out lol. But ill probably wash them everyday or every other day.

I have no idea what those are, but the kind I use you do not soak at all. It can rot and wreck the laminated PUL on the inside making them leak and not waterproof.

I definitely wouldn't soak in detergent, only water.
I use rockin green detergent, designed for cloth diapers.
If you use normal washing powder only use half of what you'd use if you're washing clothes.
And don't put your machine on low or automatic water level, you need a lot of water so it dissolves and swishes (lol) I always wash on a high water level.

we tried gdiapers and ended up hating them. they leaked so bad. But this was 4 years ago. So maybe they are better now

They have it on walmart.com?? gDiapers look like the best choice for us, as well. I am a SAHM, and we don't really go out much, so cloth diapering won't be a big deal. I had to do it for a while with my older son because he had an allergy to the disposables we were using at the time.

I think hand washing as a preliminary is a good idea, then washing in the machine once I got a big enough load.
