anemia

posted 11th Mar
Has anyone here had it? What did you have to do to treat it?
And what were your symptoms?

A few people have told me they think I might be anemic because i'm always fatigued and I have problems with blacking out around the time my period comes. And I have trouble concentrating a lot. I can't go to the doctor for a few more months though

Iron pills. Take them with Vitamin C and a stool softener. The Vitamin C helps them to be absorbed better, and the stool softener, well, because iron will constipate you. Can you call your doctor? They might be able to order a CBC (which is $8 at my doctor's office) without an appointment.

I've had it for plenty of years. You can take iron pills but they don't agree with me. They make me constipated. I just make sure I eat plenty of iron rich foods daily and take vitamin C which helps my body absorb they iron.

Well I don't currently have a doctor, but my son's doctor is a family doctor so I might ask him.
I was told not to do straight iron, I've been taking a multivitamin with iron in it but it's huge and tastes AWFUL so it's tough to go through with it (I have a serious problem swallowing pills)

Do you think that would be enough though?

I understand. I am the same way. Try to incorporate plenty of iron-rich foods into your diet (green leafy vegetables, legumes, etc).

Take iron pills. I had to do that all through highschool I was always tired and sleeping, my parents thought I was on drugs and had me tested (came out negative) and it turns out my iron is low.

I guess I can try that until I can go to the dr at least.
I'm just worried because I literally woke up on my bedroom floor in the middle of the night screaming for help, no idea how I got there and I still don't know why. Everyone I've talked to thinks it's anemia because I was on my period when it happened. I'm just scared it's going to happen again

I ended up doing malt-o-meal 2xs a day - has more Iron in it then liver. a little brown sugar and it isn't half bad. It was actually the only thing that helped me - even more then iron pills

I was prescribed iron pills as well for my anemia. The only symptom I ever really noticed was fatigue. The iron pills never made me constipated so I guesa I was just lucky.

um that sounds more like a bad dream. Passing out from anemia doesn't usually entail screaming

Well I woke up before that and i went to the bathroom feeling like I was gonna smurf everywhere and once I sat on the toilet nothing would come out. my stomach just felt like it was going to explode then I started sweating and feeling weird then next thing I know I was on the bedroom floor. It was scary smurf. Not a bad dream though.
