My youngest hated baby food. He would only eat it like, once a week. So I finally just gave up and just waited until he was ready.

I realize this. I just told her that I wasn't worried about solids. My pediatrician wants me to allow him to try foods, but isn't concerned he is not into them. The WIC nutritionist told me that "read the American Pediatric Association guidelines. They say at 6 months a baby HAS TO HAVE pureed baby foods"

Just tell them you'll consult your pedi about it, that they don't need to be concerned.

This is pretty much what I told her lol. She wanted to start talking about "research shows"! Well, my research shows that MY child doesn't want baby food, and isn't interested in anything but the boob and an occasional bottle of breastmilk while I'm at school. He can use a pincer grip and pick foods up just fine, and that's the main purpose of feeding baby's solids in my opinion. When he WANTS food he eats just fine, but for the most part just doesn't want it.

Wic will not change what they give you regardless of what you are feeding your little one. I learned to just tell them what they want to hear, and if I am not starting foods yet... whatever I got, I just saved for when I did. I listened, learned what I could, but unfortunately their information is not always up to date. It's not necessarily wrong... just not always up to date. They have to teach what they are told until WIC as a while changes their education guidelines.

See, I was making baby food. Homemade organic baby foods, so I'm not concerned with even buying the foods. I just found it weird that she was so pushy about me starting solids! Actually she told me at 4 months that because my baby was so big I needed to start giving him cereal!

I'll never understand that argument.. since BM has more and better calories. That's like telling a grown man who just worked all day that instead of steak and potatoes, he should eat salad since he's so hungry.

Thank you! Why would I change his diet by adding something that first of all he doesn't enjoy. It's not necessary in the least. He actually got extremely ill when I tried cereal the first time at 5 months! Breastmilk is MADE FOR MY BABY! My body produces it just for him and his needs, so why mess with that ya know?

Just smile and nod and tell the WIC person what they want to hear. But do what you feel and know is best for your baby.

none of my kids tolerated cereal. we tried, it made them constipated. We just did fruits, veggies and then table foods.

started them all on avocado, pumpkin, then jar babyfood. because we delayed... we didn't bother with stage 1, they are so thin... but went right to stage 2 and 3

My baby will not do a spoon. He wants to feed himself, and does so well. I just chop up steamed fresh veggies and allow him to self feed when he chooses to.
