Hmmmm....

posted 10th Mar
So my mom, dad, niece, and 2 nephews are coming over for dinner tonight, and all I know is that I have pork chops in the fridge thawed out for adults and some frozen peas and top ramen for the babies (oldest boy is almost 3 and my niece is 18 months...they love them some noodles! haha). I have no idea what else to make for the adults!
We have canned and frozen peas, carrots, corn, and greenbeans...and noodles, rice, potatoes, and the butt of a butternut squash (not enough for 4 adults)...HELP ME! lol
And if you give me ideas that sound super yummy, we have food stamps so we can run over to WalMart and get some things. It's the first time I've ever cooked for my mom at my own house, and I know she doesn't care, but I really wanna prove to her that I'm a good stay at home mommy/girlfriend. lol Hence why my house smells like Lysol and laundry right now xD

I would make butter noodles for the kid's and not ramen. That stuff is loaded with sodium.

Pork Chops, mashed potatoes, corn, and rolls. Can't go wrong with that!

I love twice baked potatoes
But my faaavorite side ever is grilled asparagus wrapped in goat cheese and prosciutto--I could eat that as a meal all by itself!

I only put half the packet of flavoring in the ramen...with an egg and peas.
And that sounds really good. haha

I bake the pork chops with apples and apple sauce. I would make rolls and big green salad and grill asparagus and broccoli and roast red potatoes. I also wouldn't serve the kids anything different, just the same thing you guys are eating. Ramen is really gross.

I agree with this. I think so many kids become picky eaters because adults condition them to be.

Normally I wouldn't...but they refuse to eat meat, and I don't feel like fighting with them or making my parents have to feed them when they get home.
If the kids had their way they'd eat cupcakes and Cheetos for dinner....that's what their mommy gives them. So we just try to get fairly healthy, rounded meals into them. They both love eggs, noodles and peas...so yeah.

Exactly!

My son (3) eats pork chops with us. He does have certain things he doesn't like (like asparagus) so if I make something I KNOW he doesn't like (that he has tried many times) ill make him a substitute veggie and make him just try a bite of the veggie we have. He eats mashed potatoes or pasta or whatever other side we have too.

Last night we had spinach and ricotta tortellini with chicken-sausage (super lean) with wilted spinach and yellow peppers tossed in a white wine butter sauce.

He even eats "salad" with us---he eats the greens, celery, peppers, croutons, and cheese ---working on adding the rest.

My son requests a salad at least 2-3 times a week! Everyone always tells me how lucky I am that he will eat anything, but its because he has never been given any other option lol

My son pretends to be a dinosaur---triceratops loves green leaves   he eats raw spinach as a side with no dressing on a pretty regular basis.

I'm also not allowed to call chicken legs anything besides "parasauralophus legs" and I must let him eat them with 2 fingers and growl.

I love showing him how animals eat many fruits/veggies and then get him to try them and pretend to be that particular animal
