When did you start feeding...

posted 9th Mar
Your child table foods? Aliyah is 8 months and has barely tried any table foods, me and SO have decided to have her on her Formula, Baby food, and Graduate Puffs, that's about it. When we tell people this, that we aren't feeding her table food they act surprised and say we should be giving her Chicken, and mashed potato's and stuff. She doesn't even have teeth yet.

So, my second question is, should we start feeding her table foods? Meaning, should I inch my way into giving her tastes here and there?

We started with DD at 6 months.

Ditto.

We handed them avocado, or steamed veggies. If they could eat it, cool. If not, we assumed they weren't ready. They weren't big eaters until closer to 10 months, it worked for us.

We never did baby food, other than the few purées I mad, or puffs, they gross me out. When we did introduce solids it was straight to "table foods". For ds it was 6 months and for dd it was closer to 7. We started them both with roughly mashed avocados and bananas and we had them feed themselves with their hands. I only puréed things like asparagus and pineapple because the texture can be difficult for babies to handle. We also only introduce one food per week. Their main source of nutrition until around 12-13 months of course was breastmilk.

I think if pure going to have her on solids, table foods is the way to go.

DD1 started having table food, like pancakes and stuff, at 6 months. She got teeth early so I was confortable with it.
DS didn't eat anything but pureed baby food until a year old. He didn't get teeth for a long time so we waited until we were sure he could handle it.

You don't need teeth to eat. My husband and son are perfect examples of that. My son started table foods at 6 1/2 months. He can eat anything I eat.

Yesterday's lunch:

Roast, carrots, potatoes:

BBQ chicken, potatoes and beans

Homemade pancakes, sausage and eggs

Agreed! My kids don't get teeth until they're around 1. They both were eating chicken, veggies, you name it. Plus, you chew with your back set of teeth not the front ones. So, the teeth they initially get aren't even the ones they'd be chewing with. ;)

Yup! They don't have all those until 2-4 years old.

Chunks of soft steamed vegetables. He started with carrots, broccoli, red peppers, then moved to bread, then cheese, bananas are great too. Now the only thing he can't eat well is fresh cut apple and I don't let him have any kinds of chips.

My LO just turned 9 months and eats everything. Chicken, turkey, cheese, any fruit, any veggie. She eats whatever I eat. We did purées for maybe a month and I thought they were gross so we did table foods.

She has no teeth btw, and she has never choked.
