toddler toenail falling off?

Yesterday when i was giving LO a bath i noticed his big toe has a little brown to it and his toe next to his big toe is almost falling off! I clip his toenails but i didnt want to move the one that looked like it was about to fall off b.c i didnt want to hurt him, also i noticed that he has alot of peeling skin around his toes, anyone have this experience?

That happened to DS when he was like 1.5. I thought it could be toe fungus but it wasn't. After it fell off a new toe nail started growing.

should i let it fall off by itself or should i gently tear it off?
