Pet lovers, advice needed!!

posted 9th Mar
I need some help. We have 2 cats (One 2 year old female and a one year old male) and have recently adopted a female dog. Long story short, our dog had an accident inside on the first day and ever since then, our male cat has gone upstairs and continues to pee in that same stop or around it. (He's been great with being litter trained until now.) Any advice on what to do?

P.S- Re-homing ANY of our fur-babies is not going to happen/not something we would ever do. They're our babies. Even if it takes a while for this problem to stop I want to find something that will stop our cat from being so dang territorial. TIA!
(We're using Water/Vinegar and then sprinkleing with baking soda to take the smell/clean the carpet.)

Is your cat fixed? Was it spraying or pee? Could be territorial marking or he could have UTI.

If you can't get the smell out then he's not going to stop & if he continues to do it after the smell is gone then I guess you'll just have to be ok with him pissing in that spot lol if you catch him you could try using a spray bottle to squirt him. I hate when cats spray. Took FOREVER for my sisters to stop but it did take them moving for it to happen

Cats don't like orange and lemon peels. Put some peels in a spray bottle with water and let it soak for a day or so and spray the area. It should stop the cat from going there.

It absolutely could be marking, but it could also be him reacting to the stress of the new situation. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Feliway and recommend it all the time. We had a male cat that urinated everywhere every time we had a new foster dog come into the house. I bought 2 Feliway Diffusers and plugged the in at opposite ends of the house and the urinating stopped. If I forgot to check and make sure they stayed full, the minute they were empty he would start urinating again. And the best part is, it's just a pheromone, so no chemicals!

He's fixed. This has not been a problem until we got our dog...

I think that might have been the problem. Maybe I didn't get the smell fully out? This time i'm using the vinegar/water mix that someone told me to use so hopefully that gets the smell fully out?

You could even add them to your vinegar mix, if you have them on hand.
