Birth control

posted 8th Mar
I need help deciding which birth control to get on after this baby. I've pretty much narrowed it down to Implanon or Paragard because I'll be tandem nursing and I'm awful with taking pills on schedule. The entire idea of Implanon freaks me out TBH, but I tried to get an IUD after my last baby and by the time the appointment rolled around my cervix was already too tightly closed for them to insert it without Cytotec which I was not down with. So we used the pull out method and you see where that got me. Anyway, I'm nervous the same thing will happen again if I try it this time.

I'm also super worried about them making me hold onto weight. It took a really long time for me to lose weight after I had my first and I wasn't on anything at all. I'm wondering how many of you have tried either method and how it affected your weight loss? And your overall experiences with them. If you've had both that would be even better if you could compare.

If I had to pick I would do Implanon over shoving anything in my cervix. I hear good and bad about both. Not really much help lol Im to much of a wussy so I still take the pills.

I just got off of Paragard(February 5th) after 5 months of pretty much nonstop bleeding. I didn't have any other side effects from it though so if it hadn't been for the bleeding I would have stayed on it. Of course, I just found out I was pregnant a week ago and since my last period was back in December, there is a possibility I got pregnant while on it.

I'll be watching this thread. My only option really is paragaurd because its hormone free and I had a really large blood clot last year and my doctor and I agreed that would be best.

I have the paraguard. so far I love it. i have had it about a month. my period was crazy, but not painful. and the IUD doesn't bother me. I did have to have the first one removed and new one placed because the first one was startign to come out after a week. but it was no big deal

I had a Mirena IUD after Evan and it was a nightmare. I couldn't lose weight to save my life and it made me super depressed. It also had a major effect on my milk supply but luckily I was able to maintain my supply but it was incredibly hard and he weaned at only 15 months. My friend got a Paraguard and claims she literally dried up in a matter of days. Like couldn't hand express a DROP. It was horrendous. She got it removed immediately but had to get donor milk for her six week old and it took two months of hell for her to get her supply back to normal. Hormonal birth control is just not worth the risks IMO, even more so for breastfeeding mothers.

We can't have another baby right now (if at all) though. I have to use something. I'd prefer not to, but we can't have another baby.

Plus Paragard is non-hormonal which is why I'm looking at it over Mirena this time.

I don't know how much help this but I got the shot. I was breastfeeding and the doctor said it was ok bc my milk supply had come in and it shouldn't affect my supply and it didn't really. it was lowered a little but I was also making way more then baby ate.

I have never used either, but I have a friend who has Paragard and has nothing but wonderful things to say about it. She breastfed for a year and never had any problems with supply, etc.

A friend of mine had Implanon and had it removed because the side effects for her were pretty bad.
