Non violent disipline
posted 8th Mar
I posted this in the non violent discipline support thread but I need quicker responses. I'm having one if those days when it's just tough being with the 2 year old I babysit and my 1&1/2 yr old son. They keep fussing and fighting with each other and normally I am very patient and tolerant and help them get along. Today I am like going crazy! So what do you do on those days when it's really hard to acknowledge your child's feelings? Help!

I just ignore anything that isn't life threatening.

This!
Can't be the mediator all day long. They have to learn and deal with each sometimes in their own.

My niece and son fight like brother and sister I will out them on two different couches for a few minutes to seperate them and calm down, or if it's just one acting out I do use a time out chair.

Haha thank you for all the suggestions. I need more!!!!! Ahhh! If I don't mediate they start hitting each other and pulling and pushing. The 2 yr old is super possessive and it makes everything into a fight. I am taking all of this advice though. I also put my iPod in and I'm tuning them out for a bit to gather my sanity.

Is there a diff activity you can engage them in? Like get them dancing or play hide and seek? Or can you guys go outside and play?

Yeah I took them outside that was a good outlet. I'm finally home but go back again tomorrow. I hate saying "no, no, no!" all day. I feel we have a more productive day when I get down on their level and emphasize with them. It takes a lot if patience and energy and today I just didn't have it, PMS wins again!

I feel ya. I teach prek and I have 18 4yo 2 3 hr sessions a day. It's tiring and takes a lot of patience. We use conscious discipline with then and honestly there's some days where if nobody is hurt or bleeding I just have to let some stuff go.
