Was I offensive?

A friend's 8 day old baby died suddenly about a week ago. I found this website that makes lifelike dolls of real babies (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kathryne-Schriefer/100719983377241) and I told my friend about the woman and suggested that maybe she could have a doll made of her baby to remember her by.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now thinking about it I'm worried I was insensitive or offensive or something. Would you take offense or be wounded by my suggestion if you were the friend?

I think it was sweet. I have a friend who had a miscarriage and I linked her to a FB group that makes pillow that are the weight of the baby when you miscarried.

Personally I'd find that very offensive. Her baby died. You're suggesting a doll.

Honestly, yes, I would find that very offensive, as if you were suggesting my baby could be replaced with a doll.

And that link... that doll is scary.

I don't think it was insensitive neccesarily(sp?), but if it was me, I would want nothing to do with a doll like that. But maybe others would. I would decline, but I would not be offended by it.

She may be offended just because it is such a serious incident. I wouldn't be offended though, I'd think it was a sweet gesture.

I mean, I could see how it could be taken the wrong way. Especially if it's really soon after the baby passed.

But, I'm sure you didn't mean it like "Well, just get a doll instead". Hopefully she knows that you meant it in a kind/helpful way, and not as anything rude.

Yep, it's the same lady. I asked Castan's mom who did her doll and she linked me to that lady.

No, I wouldn't. But I don't take offense when people mean well. Not everyone knows the right way to give condolences.

No, I'd never suggest she could replace her baby with a doll. That never crossed my mind. I figured it would just be a way to remember her baby by.
