Kidney Stones

I have my first one. The pain medicine they gave me only works for about an hour or so(Percocet and Ibupropon ) and I am thankful for what little relief I do get, but I still find it hard to get comfortable or sleep or do anything besides want to cry and rip my own skin off.

Are there any other things I could be doing, like heating pads (if it would even help)? How long do these things normally take in your experience?

if they aren't relieving your pain... go back in. there are other meds they can give you. They could do roxy in between doses of Percocet (essentially Percocet without the Tylenol)

I usually go in when I get them, they give me morphine. The first one I passed at the hospital. The second I passed at home a few days later after going to the hospital. They gave me morphine then, pain medicine. To take home and pills to help make the stone smaller so it can pass.

They gave me morphine pills with mine. It took about 3 or 4 days to pass.

I've never had them... but I've taken care of enough patients with them. If I ever had one... smurf morphine and oral meds. I'm asking for dilaudid and Demerol. Dilaudid is great for pain control, and Demerol dilates the ureters to help pass the stone.

Haha, next time ill ask for that! Because morphine makes me so sick! Ill be getting another one soon lol, I have another waiting in me haha.

I would not wish a kidney stone on my worsr enemy.... well maybe my ex husband :-)

don't ask.. but let them know morphine makes you sick. even with legit reason... anyone who walks in and ASKS for for dilaudid looks like a drug seeker. But if you're having extreme pain, unrelieved by pain pills, and morphine makes you sick, they'd likely try fentanyl or dilaudid. both are MUCH stronger and better than morphine.. just work differently.

1mg dilaudid is about as strong as 8 mg morphine though... so you'd get a tiny dose. but.. for some people it works so much better.

They gave me dilaudid today in the ER when I swore I was dying of my apprendix gone wrong, but it wore off fairly quickly too.... What seemed like 45 minutes maybe less and when I casually said something to the nurse at discharge she told me it was the strongest they make and they couldn't make all my pain go away, so I feel like the problem is my low pain tolerance.
If I can't bear it by on the morning I'll see if I can't get something better

Nice mine is a peach too. Hasnt seen LO but once a year. Got kick out of the military did not tell me a left the state. I get the lovely pleasure of seeing him in child support court in a few weeks. Im off to read your last post.

Fentnyl? When the morphine wasn't helping.

it's a short acting drug. We've had patients admitted to the hospital until they passed their stones

Oh good, so I didn't look like some drug addict that had some high tolerance for meds lol

I took 1 more Percocet before bed and whatever had been shanking me must have given up in the night so I am embarrassingly using the strainer they gave me so I can take this thing with me to the urologist they referred me to.

I just hope that was the worst of it.
