Hypertension from Pregnancies?

posted 7th Mar
So, I haven't had a primary care doctor in a few years. I finally made an appointment with a new one because of high blood pressure.

Since I had a molar pregnancy, at which point my blood pressure was running 190/100 at times (or worse) it has remained high. It is nowhere near that high... just around 140/85 on a normal day, and around 155/90 on a bad day. My doctor doesn't want to treat me for the BP, unless it gets worse, until I am no longer pregnant... but she hasn't really looked more into WHY my blood pressure is high. She told me she thinks it is from the molar pregnancy, and getting pregnant so soon after that my body has never had a chance to recover... but I really haven't heard of that. Somehow I think she should be looking more into it. My OBGYN told me that he doesn't think a previous molar pregnancy would be related to high blood pressure years later. A person my age shouldn't have hypertension like this. Yet, she just sums it up to a result of my pregnancies.

Anyone heard of this? Should I be pushing her to look further into it... or regardless of the cause is medication really the only route anyways? She has me checking my BP multiple times a day and charting it, but other than that hasn't offered any other testing.

i looked it up at one point, you can have hypertension from being pregnant and then sometimes it stays high and sometimes it goes back down to normal.

I know it's possible... but I just wonder if she should be looking more into it. I feel like she's just assuming it's from pregnancy and what if it isn't? I really don't know anything about it, so maybe it doesn't matter what it's related to.

i had elevated BP with my son turned preeclampic, and im 9 wks now and my bp is head that way again. With my son my BP did not return completely to normal until after 6 weeks PP. You need to wait unitl your hormones come back to normal and them treat with med or diet if it continues. What your sodium intake and keep following up!! Good Luck =)

Do you know if your dr is checking for protein in urine??
If you think something might be wrong with your BP, talk to her about it and have her explain why she isn't doing anything more than having you check it through out the day. It's always better safe than sorry

I was 8 months PP and still had the same BP....
I cut down to only drinking water or fat free milk.
I NEVER add salts to my food, and try to keep things fresh/healthy. I eat a lot of cereal, yogurt, veggies, chicken.... I had my cholesterol checked a while back and it was normal. I just feel like since I'm pregnant she's just blaming it on pregnancy.

It was my first appointment with her so I didn't want to push it too hard.
I have to go back in a few weeks and bring in the paperwork with the blood pressure readings for her... and I was wondering if I should prod her more about the blood pressure issue. It's as if she doesn't want to look more into it because I'm pregnant. It's as if she's treating pregnancy like the plague. I feel like she can still test me for things and look more into it regardless of me being pregnant. Idk.

I'm sure my OBGYN is testing my urine for protein. I had the higher BP with my last baby, and I was fine until delivery. It remained the same. No protein in my urine.

Positive.
It's like this at home, too. All of the time. It gets higher throughout the day.
