Great Aunt threatening a custody battle?

So out of curiosity I was wondering if I was the only one who found this absurd & how it would play out in court? My 18 month old son's great aunt (so his daddy's aunt) threatened to take myself & boyfriend to custody court over my son. She is not close with my son, he barely knows who she is. She has no rights as far as my son.
It started when she contacted me on facebook after not seeing her for a month & said "I will be taking the baby this weekend" I didn't respond & she said it again "I WILL be taking the baby to my house Saturday" I talked to my boyfriend, my son's daddy since this is his aunt & he said to tell her No seeing as she is basically telling us she is taking our kid instead of asking. She has never been allowed to take my son somewhere by herself, we don't have that kind of trust at all not to mention she tried to fight be while I was holding my son who was then only 4 months old, she was screaming profanities & threatening me. Long story short her & I don't have a good relationship & she barely has a relationship with my son.

So anyways after I said No you won't be taking my son she said she'll be taking us to court? Anyone else had a situation like this? What would even happened & how would she even get a court date?

She sounds mentally Ill... what makes her think she has any rights?

Ive never heard of that. I don't think she has any rights. I'm pretty sure the only thing is grandparent rights. That's crazy though. I'd be pretty pissed if someone TOLD me they were taking my kid

She sounds like she has mental problems, or we just don't know the full story.

Why would she want to take you to court? Thats really weird.

She doesn't have a legal leg to stand on. She has no rights whatsoever to your child. Grandparents often go to court to establish grandparents rights, but those usually involve visitation, not outright custody, unless the parents are grossly unfit. Don't worry about what she says right now. If she does happen to see a lawyer, the attorney will probably tell her the same thing, that she has NO rights, and cannot take custody of your child.

YeAh it just really irritated me that she thought she was going to be allowed to just take my toddler son somewhere cause she wants to... Like who the hell do you think you are? What rights do grand parent have?

It depends on the state. They have none here in tn...my mil tried to pull some smurf once and found out, heh.

Haha. I have an aunt that is 29, I'm 22.

I guess because I'm not letting her see my son? But the thing is we haven't seen her for over a month & she has never been allowed to just take my kid somewhere. We just moved out of her sister's house (my boyfriend's mom, my son's grandmother) & she would stop by there whenever & see my son but it was not very often, it was more so her daughter (her only child she has custody of) could play with my son. They are about two and a half years apart so they have a ball together. I feel so bad for that little girl though her mom is mentally unstable
