Playard? HELP!
posted 7th Mar
(Please reply ONLY if you have used a playard with your child/children.)
Okay, I'm dead set on using a playard instead of a crib. This will be my third child and my other two never used their cribs. They were used for storage more than anything. So I want to know what were some of your experiences using a playard instead of a crib.... I want the pros and cons
Thank you.

I've only used the top section of a play yard since he's 3 months old...But I'd think the bending all the way over to pick up/lay down baby would suck on the back!

We use both. DS will nap longer during the day in his play yard than his crib.

We're using one as a bassinet and my daughter hates it... I guess she finds it uncomfortable. She sleeps in her travel bassinet just fine, but hates the play yard! I think they make mattresses for them, though!

Pros: Takes up less space and its cheaper than a crib.
Cons: You'll have to bend all the way down to pick up the child and its not as sturdy.
I would recommend it as a bassinet, not as a crib substitute.

Welcome! (: We used ours (the bassinet part) for 6 months with DS. Now I use it to keep him contained while I'm showering, or for naps. It was a good investment.

I used neither for my daughter. But my son sleeps in both. right now he is using the bassinette part of the p&p. I dont' think I will like it as much when he is bigger, it's pretty low once they outgrow the bassinet part. I use the crib at night because it's in my room.

If you plan on using it as a crib substitute I highly suggest getting a pack n play mattress. The little flimsy thing that comes with them is not good for the backs when being used all the time.
