Baby room temperature

posted 7th Mar
Our room is very cold at night because its a converted garage but not insulated. Can a newborn sleep in like I'd say its about 50 degrees? Ferenheit. Would full coverage pjs and a swaddle suffice? I sleep in boxers and a tank with just a sheet and I'm chilly, but for a new baby idk...

The general rule for keeping your child warm is what your wearing plus one layer. I always factored in my sheets as one of my layers. 50 sounds awfully cool though. I know its safer for a child to sleep in a cooler room for SIDS but I believe in that respect cooler is like 66-68...Is there any way to better insulate your room?

A space heater would work.. Or keeping the bassinet close to the door.. Where its much warmer..

That should be ok. Our heater broke after DS was born and we had to wait a week or so to get it fixed. We just kept him swaddled with fleece blankets and he never seemed to have any issues.
Plus it should start warming up by the time you are do so I don't think it would stay that cold in there. A small heater may work in the mean time til it does start to warm up though.

I got a great space heater at target that blows warm air. It does not get hot to the touch and when you tip it over it automatically turns off. I believe its called a vornado...I will check when Iget home. We use it in the kitchen daily because its drafty in there.

baby will wake up if its too cold. Its always better to be too chilly then too hot. what about using just the fleace pjs with feet? when we lost power our temps got down to 45 in the house and we had her in one of those with a blanket and she was fine.
