Organic Formulas??

posted 7th Mar
Does anyone use organic formulas? I'm getting a little disturbed by the fact that sugar is the first ingredient in my DD's Similac Sensitive formula. I don't think that can be a good thing. I've seen three types of organic formula....Earth's Best, Baby's Only, and Similac Organic. Can anyone recommend a certain kind to me??

Since she is on similac why not try the similac one?

That was why I tried to get DD back on normal not sensitive formula as soon as possible.

Sugar is going to be pretty high on any formula. Even breast milk has sugar in it. Do you worry about her gaining too much weight? Or is it just because its on the label first?
Lactose is usually within the first few ingredients in any formula. I'm sure it is to help with the calories that baby's need.

My cousin swears by the earths best organic soy formula. Her son had a ton of allergies and that was the best one they had found.

It's just that it's the first ingredient. That's a little crazy. Plus I'm just trying to eat better and want my little ones to eat better too. I think a ton of sugar is unnecessary. I know a little is okay though.

If I am not mistaken isn't the first one Fructose or something?

Why not do homemade formula?

Its far healthier. Also, what about re-lactating or donor milk?
Pretty much all commercial formulas have a ton of sugars in them and it isn't even the same type of sugar in breastmilk. It adds calories but metabolizes differently.

Quoting EpicThunderCat!:" Why not do homemade formula?"

This is what I was going to recommend. Even the "organic" formulas will have some sugar added. The homemade formula will cost a bit to make, and take a bit of time and preparation, but it's worth it if you want to protect your little one from harmful ingredients.

I've personally made the homemade, Weston A. Price version of formula during troubled breastfeeding times and it's worked wonderfully for us.
