elective induction after 39 weeks...

posted 7th Mar
I am 39 weeks and want to ask my midwife to induce me sometime this week because of my kidney stone pain. Has anyone else asked to be induced after the 39 week mark and was.

if you get induced you have more of a risk of c-sec. youve got this far.

My midwife said I can be induced at 39 weeks if I asked to be, but I'm not going to. Babies should come when they are ready unless there are true problems.

You do run a higher risk of ending in a section if you're induced. I can't imagine how painful the stones must be on top of being at the very end of your pregnancy but would you want to recover from a section on top of having the stones? I found recovering from vaginal birth alone hard enough!

My doctor asked me and I agreed.

Pros:
My mother got to be there
I got to see my baby sooner
My water didnt break in public

Cons:
The contractions went hard, quick
I was in labor for 15 hours
I was confined to the bed, the whole time.
Baby got stuck, had to use vacuum.
Didnt get the excitement of going into labor by myself.
Baby didnt pick his own birthday.
Everyone knew that I was being induced, so there was a LOT of unwanted visitors trying to get in while I was laboring. :/

All in all, I wish I would have waited until my body was ready instead of forcing him out.

One more week won't hurt you. You wouldnt get induced at 20 weeks if you had a kidney stone, would you? That isn't really a good enough excuse. Try to wait it out, it will be best for you and baby.

i had to be induced with my second due to him being over my cervix so it wouldnt dilate on its own but i would never actually want to be induced it was hell. my first came completely on his own and i had the easiest labor and delivery with him.

by the time i was 37 weeks with both of my children i started contracting but had a hard time dialteing. with my son i didnt get induced till i was almost 42 weeks and with my daughter i sarted begging to be induced at 37 weeks but got told i had to wait till i was 39 weeks. both were born through a vaginal birth. i may end up doing it again with this one im 29 weeks now.
wish you luck on your baby!

Oh girl I can't imagine your pain. I passed gallstones so I can't imagine kidney stones.. Sounds a lot worse to me. Yuck... If baby is healthy and lungs are fully developed, I'd say go for it.

There is no way of knowing all that.

It's called an amniocentesis.

They don't do that before inductions and they can cause complications as well. Why don't just wait?

It was done before my induction. And twice before that. The chances of it causing the water break are low. And because if she's going through the pain that I experienced, it's agonizing and if the baby is healthy enough then she can relieve herself.

Yes it's very painful!! My friend had tons of gallstones when she was pregnant and she told me they ended up having to induce her at 37 weeks because of the pain she was in:-/ Why put the extra stress on your baby and yourself if you don't have to. I'm all for an induction at this point. I wanted my baby to come on her own but in the long wrong I feel this would be best for both of us
