Colorado car seat disposal

Last Friday my daughter and I were rear ended at a red light by a woman going about 35mph. We stopped using the old seat and have since replaced it. What I'm trying to figure out is where can I take it to be destroyed? Back home fire stations/ police dept would take them, but when I stopped and asked they looked at me like I lost my mind.
We are outside of co springs.

This. Make sure you cut up the seatbelt and stuff.

We cut the straps and put it in our garbage can. I wish I would've removed the cover & pads though...one, to make it even less tempting to take and two, I could've sold them on ebay and made a little money [atleast enough for Starbucks] since a new set is $80+shipping!

Ouch just for the straps and pads? Or whole seat. I bought a new one yesterday ($200) it's crazy how expensive they are. I'm waiting on the lady's insurance company to reimburse me now
