Drinking so much water that you vomit?

posted 6th Mar
I am trying to figure out what is going on with me. This doesn't happen all the time, but there are times that I will become so thirsty that I drink so much water that I throw up...it comes out like exorcist style. Idk if I become thirsty from salty & greasy food or what, but this just does not seem normal. I understand that drinking to much water can lead to a lot of problems with your body, but I do not know what is going on. What can cause this?

You can die from drinking to much water..

Do you know roughly how much water you are drinking when this happens? Do you normally have a sensitive gag reflex? Is it soon after eating? Do you ever get pain after eating or heart burn?

I know that. I don't think I actually consume enough water that I will die, but the combination of the water & my already full stomach of food is making me throw up. I'm trying to figure out what could cause this.

I don't believe I drink more than 16 oz of water. I don't have a sensitive gag reflex & it's not really soon after eating. I just feel full from the food & very thirsty. No pain or heartburn.

I've done that before but only after a jog... And sometimes when I drink water too fast it makes me feel sick but I don't actually throw up..

I'd assume it's the same thing as if you over ate. But when you eat it's a slower process so most people don't throw up. Water can be chugged down fast, so I can see how that could lead to vomiting.

How many glasses/ounces are you drinking in a day?

Simple answer would be, since there is no pain or heartburn which narrows down actual stomach problems, is that you are eating enough to fill your stomach and the water you chug is just over flow you don't have room for. My sister chugs water after meals before BFing and sometimes ends up puking because of it. I would try drinking slower so you can feel when you are at your limit and sucking on ice cubes to sate the dying of thirst feeling

I don't know exactly how much I drink a day, but I'd say 40+ oz a day. I know the excessive amount of water is what is making me throw up, but I'm just trying to figure out why I have these random times that I get so thirsty. It just doesn't seem normal.

First thing that came to my mind was diabetes ... just because before my SO was diagnosed he said he was always so thirsty (like an unquenchable thirst) and he threw up a lot. Although he said he craved sugary drinks not water so I dunno.

I am still Breastfeeding so maybe it is that. I don't drink fast. I just keep drinking water over probably a couple hours time frame after I eat & then all a sudden feel very full & throw up.

Two cups in one sitting after a meal is a lot. Try breaking down how much you drink at one time. Maybe a half a cup or a cup of water every hour.

And if you still have an unquenchable thirst go to the dr.

Ok Thank You Everyone. I will keep an eye on my fluid intake. If this keeps happening I will go to the doc.

Now that I have been thinking back, I remember this happening with hardly any food in my stomach before. I googled it more and thyroid problems came up. I know my grandmother has some form of a thyroid problem & takes medication daily for it. I'm going to ask my Mom more about my Grandmother's thyroid problem. I have some of the symptoms that showed up, but those also could be explained by other things as well so idk.
