Single Army mom?

I been thinking really hard about joining the army,although i don't know what position I would want and I know nothing about the army.. All i know is im a single mom and working at the Fish Fry isn't gonna help much.. Im wondering if any of yall know how things go being a single mom and all.. Can you join? Can the kid come with you? Where can i look into all this at?
I would really appreciate help and advice about this.. I just want to give my baby boy a good life..

Military policy, except for National Guard, prohibits single parents from joining the service. You would have to give up custody of your child to someone.

To join as a single parent, you have to sign custody over to someone else. You can enlist, if you're willing to choose the military over motherhood. They CAN sign custody back over after BCT/AIT, however, you run the risk of being kicked out since you didn't enlist as an active parent.

You will have to sign the rights to your daughter over to someone while you are in training IF they even let you in.

I know the army has been really strict about who they let in lately because of how many people are trying to join.

You do not sign your rights over! It's alled a family care plan and they temporarily watch your child if you were to have training, deployments etc

Yes, you do. The Family Care Plan is for people already IN the military.

Generally they don't let single moms join unless they give legal rights of the child to someone else, due to training a and deployments. Not to mention with budget cuts they're not really accepting much of anyone right now.

My sister just talked to a recruiter a week ago and they told her she would have to sign her rights over to a family member.

I am pretty sure the family care plan is for people who are already in the military.

I know it's for in the military and if you join then you become in the military. Yes obviously someone would hve to become the child's temporary guardian but not in the sense that thy would sign their rights away and not get their child back

As in temporary custody not signing your rights away like it sounds.

Well I know that. I wasn't saying she would have to sign them away forever but while she is in training she will have to.

No, the single parent signs away custody for the duration of their enlistment. After their enlistment is up, they regain custody.

Well his dad is in his life but i was just hoping i could bring him with me.. I really don't want to go weeks or months without seeing him but I want to make his life good I feel like it would mean more for me to be here with him everyday but I know I have to put food on the table and what not.. His dad sees him just doesnt pay child support or anything.. I only work 50 hours a week making minimum wage (7.25) at a fish place.. I want to raise him better then this :'(
