booster shot

So I took my DS who is 4, in for his preschool immunizations.
When he was born he was 8.10 pounds, on the 97th percentile for weight and 75th for height.
Now, he is 49.2 pounds...that puts him in 110th percentile.
His dad is 6'2" tall.
The nurse said she was a bit concerned, however, I do not think there's a reason to be concerned. We are a very active family, I admit not so much during the winter, have to work on that. But the spring/summer we are always out bike riding, playing at the park, out in the back yard on the swings, the bouncy house, swinging.

And we eat relatively healthy. He has started eating his vegetables, especially when I say, don't you want to be big like daddy?

so what do you think?

he has a flat stomach, no rolls or anything. I would say he is thick.

Some children have very thin builds and some are more solid. You can do his BMI here

If he has a healthy BMI and you know he is eating healthy and exercising I wouldn't worry.

All kids are built different. My friends 7 yr old DD is 81lbs and really skinny flat tummy and tiny waist. She wears a size 8-10 clothes. But weighs a lot for her age. Almost as tall as my 10.5 yr old.

the nurse did say something that it could be a sign of diabetes...
I haven't noticed anything with it.

But they did say when he was born, being so big that he did have a chance of developing it, same with my younger son, being 11.4 when he was born.

I wouldn't worry to much until you talk to the doctor. My 3 year old was "obese" at her 3 year check up. She hadn't grown more than an inch in the year. Three months later we went in for a re-check she had grown 2 inches and was fine. I would just make sure he is getting plenty of exercise daily and eating healthy.
