Im at my wits end with him.

posted 6th Mar
For the last week and a half now my son has had this attitude everytime he is home. And it will not stop. Ive taken things away, which leads to more of an attitude and a meltdown. And before he started this a week and a half ago, he was amazing for sometime. I hate being around him right now when hes like this. I know kids will be kids but.. everyday... Its gotten to the point where I dont want to be around him. I have set limits, I have put him in time out but he has gotten to the point where he knows what is expected of him in time out so he goes in time out does his time and comes back with the same attitude again, then when I have had enough and send him to his room, he kicks and hits the wall, and slams the door.If I talk to him and tell him no, he starts yelling to cover up whatever Im saying to him and telling me whatever or plugging his ears and going about whatever he was doing. I love it when he is at school because I dont have to deal with it. And he is great at school doesnt cause any problems.

I feel like a horrible parent by saying that, but its to the point where I can not take it anymore.

DD has a point when she is at home after school that she needs to "transition" from school to home. It's a bit of a change to have to follow every direction given to her at school and then at home have to follow the house rules. If this makes sense.

We have a reward system that helps. Every "dollar" <piece of paper that I made up> earned will allow her to pick a prize from the 'treasure' box. She earns these "dollars" by acting appropriately, following house rules, doing chores, doing homework, taking medicine.. ect ect.

Nothing major just things she should be doing. Positive reinforcement works great, for us. Maybe you could try that?

All he hears is you yelling at him, putting him in time out or taking toys away...

It's rough. I completely understand. I still have struggles even with the reward system, but take it minute by minute.

IIRC, he has autism, right? Sorry if I'm incorrect. Does he see a child psych or anyone?

No he doesnt have autism. He doesnt see a psych. I wish he would but that is another story in itself.

My son is being the same way. No matter what I try. He's been horrible. He won't listen, he throws things, he kicks things, he screams, etc. I don't know what's going on with him. He turned 6 a month ago.
