Food and a one year old

posted 6th Mar
First, its LO's birthday! Violet has had an amazing year.

But she's not really much of an eater. I sit her down for meals when I eat, and she'll eat a bit... but most of it ends up on the floor or just stays on her tray.

How do I encourage her to eat more? She just wants booby, but she needs other foods too... But unless its sweet, she's not really interested.

Help!

As long as she's getting lots of boobie it's really ok that she just picks at foods right now. My daughter wasn't really totally into solids until about 13 months.

Eh, my 16 month old is the same way. She'll eat when she's hungry but only on her own terms and only if she can feed herself. She's still a huge boob baby so I'm not concerned

Also, how much are you giving her? You have to remember they hav tiny stomachs at that age. A third of a banana and she could be full.

My daughter is a snacker, she only eats little bits at a time. She can never sit down and eat a meal like I do. Her pedi said that is fine & it is normal for her age (she is 13 months). She still bfs as well.

Hardly anything. Half an egg. Ten cheerios. 1/4 a piece of bread.

It's funny cause she'd eat yogurt till she turned into it if I'd let her!

Just keep encouraging her and putting food in front of her. If she eats, great, if not that is fine too. The first year is practice.

My dd is just turned 13 months, she eats 3 meals plus 3 snacks a day, she is aso on whole milk and has been for a while now.

This was her food so far today: 1 hard boiled, 1 piece of toas with no-salt butter. 1/4 cup of cheerios (whole grain) with milk and 1/2 cup of whole milk to drink.

her snack was 1/2 cup of poop juice(apple juice mixed with meds) she gets it every day. lol she had 1/4 cup of cottage cheese with pineapple in it. and some crackers.

Her lunch was 1/2 cup of milk, homemade chicken and spinach mini burgers (on a mini bun) with tomatoes and cheese. Green beans and corn on her tray, desert was strawberries and kiwi about a 1/4 cup.

I have been feeding her all table foods since 6 months old, only delayed food was honey. She is an amazing eater for her age and size .

This is the age for that. My 18 month old son just got back into eating again. From 12 months-17 months he would throw everything I gave him on the floor, maybe eat two bites. It is a phase that they go through at this time & the best thing you can do is not force feed & just roll with it.
As counter productive as it sounds I would put on my son's favorite toddler show (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse) & feed him myself just so I felt better about it because he would literally not eat! That only worked for so long though...

I would entice him with food throughout the day and he would take a nibble here and a nibble there, sometimes that's all you're really gonna get them to do at this age. By the end of the day all the little nibbles he would take would add up to at least something to eat.
Hang in there though, usually by 18 months-24 months they start to re-engage and enjoy food again. Right now it is just go go go.
