Aww :(

My 8 month old burned his fingers on a hot plate at Applebee's on Sunday. He cried the whole way home from upstate which was 3 hours and has been fussy ever since.

The worst part was I didn't know how bad it was until today. We thought maybe that's what happened but since the burn didn't show up right away we kind of ruled it out. When he was crying on the way home I got so frustrated because I thought he was just fighting sleep as usual, that I blasted the music to tune him out. Now today he has an oozing scab on one finger and a huge blister on the finger next to it. It looks so painful.  

Epic parenting fail. Is it safe to put Neosporin on it? I wrapped up the oozy scab but I'm scared he'll put his finger in his mouth and swallow the ointment.

Awww. I always use salve on burns or cuts etc.......

I dont see why you couldnt put it on it, but I would be bringing him to a dr asap, infections can set in pretty quickly on a burn on little ones.

honestly I'd make time for it. I know it isn't convenient, but infections can be really dangerous.

I don't know what the signs of an infection in a burn are….the oozing could be a sign of one already?

It's bloody, no pus. I'll call his pedi and see if she wants to look at it.

Signs of infections in burns of small ones, swelling of the area, pain, its hot to the touch (you touching it) fever can also be present with the infection.

After a few hrs of the burn, a sign of infection can be seen if there is a red ring around the burn, if the red ring continues to expand making it bigger, its infected forsure. Without infection the red ring around the burn should retract to normal (burn size) if it does not its infected (bacterial infection)

Thanks! There's no red ring at all now and it happened on Sunday so it should be okay ATM right? I'm waiting for a call back from his pedi.

Oh and since its on the finger, you can tell if its infected if swelling of the lymph nodes occurs ( sign of a bacterial infection) helps tell if one is present from the burn being infected (not the burn itself.
