baby sleep

posted 6th Mar
I'm just wondering how much sleep is too much and if it could cause learning or socializing problems.

I feel like DD sleeps way too much so she isn't learning anything and will be antisocial since she isn't interacting with anyone very often.. Her doctor isn't concerned though.

That's what her doctor said lol... She is only up for like a half hour every 5 ish hours, there are random days that she stays up but it seems like soooooooooooooo much sleep.

Its fine. Once they are a bit older dr's sometimes get concerned if they sleep too much in the day plus at night for all sorts of reasons. lol (medical reasons)

Like my dd for instance is up at 7am down at 10 till 3pm and is up till about 8pm. then sleeps from 8 pm till 7am (would be longer but I wake her at 7am.) lol

For her its cause she medically cant breath through her nose and fights really hard to breath so it burns more calories then she gets (so she needs to eat high calories all the time) thus making her tired all the time. But she is 13 months old.

So I would not worry about anything at 4 months of age. Its normal and not concering at all. Just enjoy. lol

That's just what they do. She isn't going to have socializing or learning issues. Their brain actually develops as they sleep.

She does have aortic stenosis so I'm supposed to watch if she sleeps more than normal but she sleeps so much as it is I'm afraid I'll miss if something is wrong, KWIM? Her doctor assured me she is fine though lol...

I do have another reason why I'm worried though, someone told a friend of mine that we are neglecting her and make her sleep all the time(this person was not even in the house long enough to be able to say she is neglected, she only saw that she was sleeping a lot and I stayed with her in my room when she woke up). So now I'm like questioning if by letting her sleep so much it's neglect and will have an affect on her learning. I know that we are not neglecting her and she is perfectly taken care of but the fact that someone else would think that we don't take care of her really hurts. And there was no mention of our two boys so apparently we only hate our daughter so we make her sleep all the time. Cause you know how easy it is to make a baby sleep whenever you want them to

But thanks for making me feel better lol

I would definately watch her, aortic stenosis can cause extreme tiredness in babies and kids, and even to tired to breath fully while sleeping. My dd is Choanal artesia stenosis. And was checked for aortic stenosis as well. It would make sense for her to be more sleepy then most babies.

Wow. That person has clearly never had a baby or rudely woke theirs up all the time.

Yea it scares me so I find myself constantly watching her sleep, but God forbid the few times I let people come over I actually trust that she will be ok if I just stop obsessing for a little while and let her sleep.

I don't understand how someone can say something like that after being around for a day. It is so hard having one kid that you can't keep awake at all and two that think they don't need to sleep EVER again. I just wish I was never told anything. I knew that she would be fine and would be just as smart and happy as her brothers but I let a random person make me doubt myself and the doctors that she has seen every few weeks since she was born.
