re: Talking to LO about sex

Quoting Brookie99:" To me 7 seem to early to discuss sex. Definitely things like puberty, periods ect. but at 7 I had no ... [snip!] ... about sex and having questions but before that I would have been completely mortified if my mom tried to talk to me about sex."

dont you think it's important to teach your children about their body at a young age and that it is their own body and nobody can touch it without their permission? to me thats part of sex education.

.... I meant in grade three. I took sex ed in school too I know how it works and as I already stated I think 9 or 10 is an appropriate age so I don't have any problem with the way they teach it in school.

I definitely think they should know that. My stance is more referring to simply sex and what it is not puberty, their body or anything like that.

As early as possible but everything needs to be age appriopriate. Pretty much as soon as DS was learning to use the potty himself and now gets himself dressed I would start slipping in general things such as "now you're a big boy you go to the bathroom on your own and you clean yourself because that's your private places as no one touches you there, only you." When getting dressed I'll say similar things or when he is in the bath. Now he's 6 years old and he's developing real friendships I'm trying to start talking about having respect for people you love and care about, etc....... Sure nothing yet is about actual sex but I'm trying to lay the foundations for having respect for your body, having respect for other people. As he gets older l'll just start dropping more and more in. When we actually start having a real informed "sex" talk I don't really know..... We will just have to see how it goes lol It will certainly have to be well before the teen years and before he gets to high school because by that time there will be too much misinformation getting thrown about and I would rather get there first!!
