What to buy??
posted 5th Mar
We had budgeting around $1000 for baby gear, and it unexpectedly had to be used on something else. So now we have to wait to buy everything, and won't have nearly as much to spend as we had planned. Can you think of things that you absolutely need? And things you thought you would need but didn't? I added a bunch of stuff to my registry hoping that I'll get some of it at my shower, but most people will probably want to buy clothes. Since we have plenty of clothes, would it be okay to add something in the invitations about not needing anymore clothes? Since it's mostly family that I'm inviting, Im not too worried about offending anyone.

I wouldn't say no more clothes please. That is sort of rude.
You don't need too much for now.
Car seat
Clothes
Diapers/Wipes
Swing/Bouncy
Blankets/Swaddles
Crib
All I've really needed so far.

Have you thought about buying some things used but in good condition? Diapers, wipes, hoppy, bouncer, crib, clothes, carseat were the basics for use. I breast feed so I didn't need bottles and loved my boppy but if I didn't have the money I am sure a pillow would have worked. But around here I see swings, bouncers, baby bedding, wipe warmers on yard sale sites for 1/3rd of the cost and most not hardly used

Things you need to bring baby home:
Carseat
diapers/wipes (cloth or otherwise)
crib/mattress/crib sheets
blankets
bottles/formula (if you're NOT planning on breastfeeding)
Things that are nice to have right away but aren't absolutely essential:
boppy
swing/bouncer
dedicated diaper bag (you can use any old bag really as a diaper bag)
baby wash (we got some at the hospital that lasted for quite a while)
nail clippers
