Glasses

posted 5th Mar
I have needed glasses for awhile now. I went today to get an exam and glasses. The exam was $55, not so bad. I don't have insurance, so that was reasonable, but I paid $138 for frames and the lenses. The frames were only $28.

I feel like I got ripped off, because I got home and decided to look up more frames on Zenni Optical. I found A LOT that I liked and decided to see how much it would be for a pair with my prescription. The lens don't cost anything unless I want some special coatings or transitions.

I guess, I am ordering online from now on or maybe I did something wrong?

That's actually not too bad.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 11.

That doesn't sound like a bad price all in all. It's like any other product. Just because you didn't shop around beforehand, doesn't mean you got ripped off.

That is really cheap, you did not get ripped off.

My mom is an optometrist and has had her own optical store since I was little. The cheapest frame I've ever seen in there was like $99.

I am meaning for the lenses. I know the frames were cheap, it is the lenses I am talking about. They were $55 each for my prescription. But online I don't have to pay for the lenses?

I think you're misreading. I've always had to pay for lenses, even ordering online.

I still think the lenses are a reasonable price.

Of course you have to pay for lenses... that is what carries your prescription.

Unless it's a sale?? I think Lenscrafters offers free lenses occasionally, but you have to buy the expensive frames.

with insurance I paid 500 for my glasses. My frames were 400 because I fell in love with a pair of Gucci frames. And I got scratch resistance and anti glare coatings

I like frames that are $19. I typed in my prescription and added like $5 for the anti reflective coating and it says my subtotal is like $24 without shipping.

I don't know about that. I've tried the whole get 2 complete pair for $60. But when you actually get to the store, you HAVE to pay for an eye exam to get the discount, or sale price.

What site are you going through? That is incredibly cheap so I'm weary of believing it's legit. I got glasses less than 2 months ago. I used an eyemart express and the complete pair still cost over $100.
