Surrogate offered 10K to abort.

posted 5th Mar
Came across this thread, thought "Perfect for D/D!"

Basically, a couple was paying a woman to carry their embryo/fetus/baby and decided, after discovering severe birth defects, that they wanted to have the surrogate pregnancy aborted. The surrogate refused- but it was a little more complicated than that. The bio parents offered 10k to the surrogate to abort. The surrogate counter offered 15k but supposedly felt bad afterwards and said if the bios had accepted it she wouldn't have gone through with it. The bios rejected the 15k counter offer anyhow. Check out the link for the rest.

Are you on the BIO side or surrogate side?

I'm on the BIO side. When you're a surrogate I feel like you give up the ability to make choices for the pregnancy.

I saw that and honestly smurf her. Pretty much ALL surrogacy contracts have an abortion clause. So she signed a contract knowing she wouldn't go through with it. That is smurfed. Also she caused this family and this baby stress and gave the child a poor quality of life. I hope this means she will never be given another surrogacy contract again.

I would think there would be stipulations regarding this type of scenario in the contract.

While the counter offer does not set well with me at all, it is her body.

Who is responsible for the child in this case?

I don't think she should be in the business of carrying babies for others. I understand its her body her choice. But I think the parents of the babies wishes were thrown out the window by her. Especially when they offered 10k to abort and she came back and said 15k. At which point it looks like it was all about the numbers to her an not the life she was carrying or what was best for it.

I agree. It is not that woman's child. She can't just birth a baby they don't want anymore,it is not hers to decide. Something like that should be included in the agreement.

I can see why she wouldn't want to abort it though.

Same exact thing I said else where! She shouldn't have signed the contract with the abortion section in there if she knew she was against abortion to begin with.

There was, she was in breech of contract. She signed that contract knowing that it was an option and that she wouldn't follow through if it came down to it.

The surrogate placed her for adoption.

No one should ever be forced to abort but shame on her for electing to be a surrogate.

I think both sides made some pretty bad choices. The surrogate should never have entered into this arrangement if she didn't think she could go through with an abortion. But I don't have much respect for the bio parents, either.

Incidentally, I've heard through the grapevine that the baby is doing beautifully.

She was ok with making the money but signed the contract under false pretenses.

She signed up for a hypothetical abortion when she signed the contract. That was part of the "job" she was getting paid for.

How do we know that though? Maybe she thought it was something she would be able to go through until that moment popped up.

I think the surrogate should have read the contract better. If she was never comfortable with abortion (as stated in the contract) she should not have take then job....the article sort of emphasized that she was doing this for the 22,000.

Having that said, I'm glad she didnt abort and found a loving home for the child....but she should not take jobs like this if she can not fulfill the contract..
