Grandparents

Hey ladies! I'm wondering if any of you have advice on encouraging relationships between toddlers and other family members? My son is 2 and my daughter will be arriving April 2nd and our family dinamics are a little unbalanced. My side of the family is very active in our son's life. He has 2 grandparents, 3 great grandparents and 1 great great grandma on my side who all live in the same town we do. They are ALWAYS around.

My new husbands family on the other hand, although they have truly accepted our son as their own, is barely involved. They have the same grouping (2 grand, 3 great, 1 great great) but only my husbands parents live in the same town. We only see them once a month max, as opposed to every day like my family's side. I'm always inviting my inlaws over because I want to encourage a relationship between them and their grand kids but they always find an excuse to not come. Then there's the greats and the great great who live pretty far away. The only time I talked to them was at the wedding, and I want them to know our kids too. Really, how many kids have 2 great great grandmas??

Family is just so important to me. I know distance makes it harder, but Any ideas on how to get my husbands side of the family to open up and participate in the kids lives?

Just keep the door open only they can use it.

Keep inviting them and go to them sometimes.

You are doing all you can. Just leave the door open. They have to be willing to walk thru it.

All i can suggest is to keep inviting them, but don't make it seem like your forcing them.They might just be the kind of family that doesn't like to constantly do visits. have you talked to your husband about his family?

They may not feel as strongly as you.
