I would say they're much less likely to get hurt with you, an adult, there with them, than by themselves.

It always makes me feel awkward too!

It makes me more awkward with my own nieces and nephews, my brother doesn't care if I touch his kids, but my other SIL, she like freaks out! Even her husband does!

So when I'm at the park, I just envision some lady coming up and yelling at me. So I try to stay away from everyone.

No, it doesn't make you weird... but most people have no interest in molesting your kid, lol.

The child would get hurt if there wasn't assistance,
in the comment above i said it was more of a "i'm going to do this anyways, but can you help me so i don't fall off and break myself" kind of help. So had i not helped, they'd just get hurt.

Like, they were mid swing to the next little step while asking for help.

And the other little child who was asking for help was starting to cry saying she was scared and her mom was ignoring her completely.
I just helped her get down.

Quoting KNZ.:" yeah that was the thing, it was the kind of "i'm going to do this anyways, but can you help me so i ... [snip!] ... me while her new little friend did it and i didn't want to just walk away cos she had the mom who told her she was 'too busy'."

Yeah situations like that are always awkward, if I saw someone flat out tell their child they were too busy though I would probably feel too bad just leaving the kid alone.

oh i felt so sad. like, she was at a picnic table on the other side of the playground just messing around on her phone. (and her kid had to have been like 3.5ish, definitely not older)

i know but their is people who would blame you for helping the child and they got hurt.

But i also wouldn't like my son to ask someone for help since i want him to understand to not talk to strangers, plus when we go to the park I'm constantly with him.

Poor thing, it sucks that people act like that both for the kiddo and the adults who get put in a weird situation.

well that's how it is with my kids too.
but these other parents obviously don't share the same ideas.
i guess next time i'd just let them fall?

It's always kind of weird at the playground. I feel like I'm ALWAYS the only parent following my kid around. The rest of the parents are sitting way back on the bench & I'm right up near the jungle gym chasing him around & pushing him on the swing.. lol.
Sometimes it makes me feel like a "helicopter" mom, but whatever
