I don't even know lol I guess he was messing around with some other kids.

And it was a male teacher that did end up leaving the school shortly after but he had a lot of complaints from high school girls because he was a serious perv. so I'm sure that had a bigger part of him leaving then him saving the kid.

But on the other hand, had something happened to the kid, there's always that chance the family is sue happy, you know? Then use the fact that it's company/school policy to not help out.

People are just so sue happy that they make it difficult for people wanting to help.

I dunno why I'm laughing at that kid. I stabbed myself in the eye with a pencil when I was in 5th grade.

I'm gonna ask in my class Thursday.
I felt so bad today. I didn't know what to do. A little boy was crying because his dog died. I patted him on the shoulder but I so wanted to give him a big hug. When I was about to leave (I'm in my service learning right now), he hugged me real tight and told me thank you for trying to calm him down. I'm going to ask about this too.

Are you doing your student teaching? I hug my kids all the time. I know in the rule book it's frowned upon but... whatever. My job is to be there for my kids. I spend all day with them, if I see one of them upset, I'm not just going to let them sit there and cry. A hug or even just a pat on the shoulder can do wonders.

Not quite yet. I'm observing, mentoring, etc.; basically whatever the teacher asks. It's supposed to be 12 hours worth but I might stick around longer.

It was very hard for me not to hug him. I did hug him back when he hugged me first. I think I was okay because the teacher smiled...

Is it the first classroom you've been in? I still remember a few of the kids I had when I was doing my first observations.

Oh it's absolutely fine. Don't worry. I've never heard of an elementary teacher being reprimanded for hugging.
