tattoo question and a period question

posted 4th Mar
is it normal for my tattoo to be raised up and look scaly(ish)?

another question.... I thought I started my period the other day but I only bled for a few hours and it didn't show up after that... I went to planned parenthood to take a pregnancy test but it was negative... is that normal?

I don't think it's normal for a tattoo to be raised up. I was told by an artist that it means the previous artist went too deep (?) and caused scarring. I have two that are raised by the same artist. My other 4 by other artists are not. Scaly? I'd moisturize it.

I have had a few tattoos that did that. I must have bled and it scabbed.

if it's still healing you need to clean better and keep moisturizing. If it's already healed it means the artist went to deep or you didn't take good care during the healing process.

no, it's not normal. I'd talk to your gyno.

If it's fresh, it's normal.
I have 7 tattoos and every single one has raised up & been "scaly" for a few days.

Oh if it's new the scaling/scabbing is normal, and it's probably still swollen. If it were an old tattoo it's not normal for it to be raised

It's normal. Where the ink is, it'll raise.. and then turn scaly looking, and then peel/flake off. DO NOT pick at the flakes. Use lotion and let them naturally fall off or you'll pull the ink out.

How long did you use ointment for? Like Aquaphor?

its still healing, im assuming.. only had it for a few days... I clean it twice a day with soap and water and he said not to use any lotion unless it starts getting to where I can handle it anymore... and if its not normal... what should I do???

Are you not using ointment on it, alongside soap/water?

they didn't give me any ointment. they never covered it either, and I thought you were supposed to have it covered...

Oh man. It sounds like it could start peeling before it's supposed to, which can cause it to scab and pull ink (the tattoo on my right forearm... I started lotion too soon and a part of it scabbed and completely pulled the ink out). The tattoo artist is supposed to cover it, and leave it covered for about 3-4 hours. Then when you take the wrap off, you wash it with antibacterial unscented soap and water, and then apply aquaphor. Do that for 3-4 days. Once it starts looking scaly, stop the aquaphor and switch to unscented lotion until it's finished peeling, and do the lotion up to 5 times a day.

How big is your tattoo?

That's not true about tattood actually. People heal at different rates depending on skin type and, yes, how far the needle goes in. But if it heals quickly that doesn't mean she's done anything wrong.

Honestly OP it just sounds dry. Throw some non scented lotion on it and keep washing it 2-3 times a day.

Idk about the period question. Only time that's ever happened to me was implantation bleeding.
