breastfeeding more will make more???

posted 4th Mar
I on breastfeeding my son, first time mom, he will be two weeks old on Thursday   He had issues latching so I tried pumping but my breasts got so sore and my milk didn't come in almost a week after he was born so I have been giving him the same formula they gave him at the hospital and so far no issues. When my milk came in a pumped 3 to 4 times a day and didn't make very much so I was pumping less and now making even less. My question is, if I started pumping more and more everyday will I get my supply back up or once its gone its gone? I can make an ounce each time when before I could make 3 to 4. I really want it to go back up!!

"The more u get out of your breasts the more u will make. But how much u pump is not an indicator of how much u really make. A pump (even a good one like medela) can not do what a baby does. So just put him to breast as often as he wants.

Putting baby to breast will get your supply back. Pumping will eventually dry it up.

1. It's normal for your milk to take 3-7 days to come in. Mine took 5. Colostrum is all they need at first because its high in fat and protein.
2. You can pump more to increase supply, there are also supplements you can take like fenugreek, mother's milk tea, etc.
You need to try and get baby to latch again and wean him off of bottles and on to the breast. Pumping doesn't stimulate production in the same way as baby's suckle does. Get plenty of skin to skin with baby.

Not always, some women do nothing but pump and are just fine.

What everyone else said. Nothing will help production like the baby. Find a LC or watch youtube videos on how to latch. Adoptive mothers can nurse so it is possible for you to get your milk back.

OP is obviously not one of those women.

OP, put baby to breast as often as you possibly can and cut down on the formula. ALWAYS nurse before giving a bottle to cut down on the amount of formula you need to give.
