Diaper rash blistering/pimples

posted 4th Mar
DS is 20 months old and has horrible diaper rash. He has never had anything like this before. It started out a week ago as what looked like a normal rash, but it was pretty bad. He pooped in the middle of the night (which never happens), and I changed him as soon as I got up, and put some A&D on it. The next time I changed him it looked a little better, but still pretty bad, so I put him in the bath to soak, let him air out, put some more A&D on it and his diaper. It was looking much better but then he pooped again after that, and it got bad again. I thought it was just from him having diarrhea (which he still has). Repeat that cycle for 3 days untill we started giving him 2 baths a day. It went almost completely away for one day, but now it is back and worse than ever. It came back yesterday, and I noticed what looked like a tiny pimple and didnt think much of it, so we go on with our day. I change him again it looks bad, so into the bath we go, and I switched to Desitin. Today the pimple turned into a little blister and now it looks like a bunch of tiny pimples, so I am taking him in after DH gets off work at 2.
Any ideas what this could be?

Could it be a yeast infection?

How would he get it? I have never had one, so I dont know anything about them. He gets baths everyday, and his diaper gets changed atleast 6 times a day, more if needs it.

Has he had any antibiotics recently? My son gets that after antibiotics every time. So we do nystatin cream and oral probiotics til it's better.

we all have yeast. it like warm wetness. diaper area is perfect. it happens. DS and DD had a yeast rash once. the dr had me put athletes foot cream on it ( OTC) went away in 2 days. But there's was not as bad as your describing. and hdd is 20 months and still uses 10-12 diapers day and ds is 9 weeks and at 12 or more a day. both are in cloth. omg it was a pain to treat the diapers. lol

Ok, glad to know it is normal. We use the disposable diapers, so luckily we dont have to worry about that. I change him about every 2 hours, and right away when he poops, and he is up for roughly 11 hours a day (he sleeps 11 hours through the night, and takes a 1 hour nap). Do you think I should change him more often? He has only had diaper rash 3 times since he was born, so I thought we were doing good...

Honestly with diarrhea that long I'd take him to the doctor and see if he has an infection (which is possible even with no other symptoms) and see if that's what's causing it. The doctor will also give you a prescription for nystatin for the diaper rash. And I'd do the BRAT diet until he can handle more regular food.

The doc said she isnt worried about the diarrhea because it isnt really watery. It is more (TMI) creamy, and he doesnt have any other sympotoms of anything else, but I will definately bring it to her attention again today. I have been doing the brat diet, and it isnt working, which is odd, because it always works. Especially bananas. He has been really cranky today too, so maybe something more is going on...

Oh ok, yeah. With all that going on and not working I'd be looking into sickness.

Well crap lol. That is not what I wanted to hear. On top of all that I have been having contractions this morning. They are consistant but not to strong. Ugh, please let him not be sick, and me not be in labor..... *sigh*

could be teething. swallowing extra saliva can upset the tummy and cause poop to be more acidic.......
