Poor people

posted 3rd Mar
Ill start off by saying I don't mean to offend by saying "poor people" because by the financial definition we are "poor" but we don't live like or feel like what you'd see someone out in public and think they are poor, I'm talking about the low class in attitude that have given up on life..

Anyways DH took up a second job at 7-11 at night and has noticed the same people come in every night the average looks as follows:

About $5 on cigarettes
About $4 on beer
About $20 a week on lotto tickets
And you can see they are high and buying blunt wraps so you can assume probably 10-20 a week on weed
Do the math for the year..

So, what do you think would change if these people stopped wasting money on these things so regularly and saved the money?

Are these things keeping the "poor" people poor?

No, that's not why. At least not in every case. A lot of people are already poor, so why not try to get rich or get happy about it? Smurf that's what I'm doing lol being poor dont mean I can't be happy

I'm curious as to how people who buy beer, smokes, lotto tickets, and blunt wraps are automatically considered poor.

Truly poor people don't have the money to spend on these items. Especially not weekly.

I think your post is highly judgemental.

Plus..............I like how you call it a "blunt wrap," yet..You are calling the ones who buy these "low class, life giver upers."

Judgmental much? It's not your business what anyone spends their money on. How do you know they were poor?

Seems kind of judgemental. It's their money so I don't care. If it makes them happier I don't see a problem.

"Truly poor" and society's definition of poor are totally different, in my opinion. Truly poor is smurfing poor! Society poor is enough to pay some bills and few luxuries I think. I could be wrong, but you're right that they wouldn't be able to buy these and its judgmental.

Well I don't know about what you are saying specifically. But all the poor people I know will most likely always be poor. They get a dollar in their pocket and they spend it. I dunno some people have grown up in a poor lifestyle and don't care to change it. I think it will be really sad in the next 30 years when there is no welfare and people havnt saved.

In the city where I live, you just know..
Saggy pants, tattoos on the face, walk with a "lean"
They are poor (financially) with no intention of changing it
That's not judgement, it's just true
They only have the money to afford it because half or more if their income goes to these things
I have personally met/known enough people like this to know its true
I'm talking about the people who don't use FS to get on their feet but have no intention of getting off FS and sell a portion for "other things"

Its not anyone's business imo. If you are "poor" should you never get to enjoy anything for yourself? How do you even know these people are poor? Let people enjoy their lives a little god.

I'm just saying I'm considered poor but if I have few extra bucks ill buy some lottery tickets or some bud. Not weekly, though. Well bud ya, not tickets lol

I suppose I am society poor, then. I pay my bills and have luxuries...and I do spend my money on cigarettes and the occasional scratch off. And....I would like to have thousands of dollars saved up in a bank...But those cigarettes and scratch offs aren't why I don't have thousands saved....

You have to make a surplus of money to save a surplus of money. If my husband and I both work decent jobs..making 9 or 10 an hour. That allows us to pay bills and live comfortably...But does not mean that we will be "rich" by any standard.

Get a dollar, spend it. That's what I mean..
Also, renting tv's and furniture where if you go without for a few months the money to rent it would have added up to enough to just buy these items and own them instead if pay 10x more because you're renting.
And wanting to enjoy every day so spending every dine but not advancing in the long run instead of roughing it for a while to let something build.

That is a judgment. Assuming that all people who wear saggy pants and have face tattoos are poor. Have you met EVERY person who dresses this way? If not, you cannot say they are all poor. I can name 5 extremely rich celebrities who dress and act the way you described.

You don't need to worry about poor people. Live in your little glass house and pretend you are mightier than the next person. See how glorious your life becomes because of this.

BTW, I could say you're poor because your DH has to work a second job at a convenience store. Wouldn't that fit into society's definition of "poor?" How many yacht owners do you know that work at the local Kum N Go?
