a little shocked

posted 3rd Mar
i was visiting my gramma (A)and we were talking about my step mom and step gramma (B). my stem mom was like....a wicked step parent lol. my gramma B was really something else though, she lived with us, strong christian woman, very good hearted. Never met a woman like her.

while we were talking gramma A said something about feeling sorry for gramma B and i agreed because she has to live with my horrible step mother. then my gramma A was like, "that and shes retarded "-she actually meant that my gramma was mentally slow.
(gramma A also has a mentally retarded daughter (aunt Kathy) who used to baby sit us, i never thought anything of it. the only odd thing is that she says "we was" instead of "we were". she was an adult and my boss and that was that. well i grow up and find out that she is slow, like...cant drive, cant handle money, was told she would never read(she did though) and that was a huge shock to me, i guess i just never saw it as a kid. but now i kinda do, talking to her she is very simple minded. )

but now hearing this abut my Gramma B, like...i was raised with her. she is so nice. shes a little old so i always thought whenever she didnt quite get it was because she is a little senile, and cant see or hear very well. hearing it like that was like....idk the only think i could think was that dear john movie where the girl tells the guy that his dad is autistic or whatever it was, he got all defensive and didnt believe it even though it was probably true. its like, i grew up with her, shes normal. shes perfect. idk...
i guess its just a little shock to my system. i dont want to beleive my gramma A, she sometimes makes judgment calls that dont line up or calls things how she sees them-but then why would my gramma get SSI? idk....

A little confused...so your grandmother makes diagnoses based on proper grammar usage?

no, my aunt is actually mentally disabled. i never knew, the only thing i noticed growing up is that she has some grammar issues.
I found out this last year after reconnecting with that side of the family. I was shocked at first but it made a lot of things add up, and now when i talk to her i can really tell she is a lot more simple minded than i ever would have guessed. she used to have an IQ in the 50s but now its in the low 70s gramma was saying. she has exceeded their original expectations a lot.
But my to hear this about my other gramma is just so different, like...idk. I was so close to her all my life. i dont know whether the gramma i was talking to knows what she is talking about but i dont really have a reason to think she doesnt, kwim? i wasnt exactly clued in a lot of the time. I mean, gramma in question didnt get a lot of things, i always thought she was just a tad senile and loosing some of her eyesight and hearing so missed a lot.
its just kinda a shock to you when someone you have known all along and never thought anything was wrong with is all of a sudden labled like that. idk...
