That's ridiculous that they wouldn't let you see him. I don't think that's legal. They took my son when he was born because he had difficulty breathing. They tried assisting him in tue room but I guess he needed more invasive care. They let my husband follow. I couldn't because I was in the middle of getting sewn up, but DH went.

Nobody recommended circ- ing when my son was born. They just asked if I wanted it done. And Medicaid had just recently stopped covering the cost of circumcisions.

I think it would be individual doctors recommending, based on their opinions, not US healthcare as a whole. The AAP actually recommends against it now and as I said some insurance doesn't cover it anymore.

After reading all posters replies, I have to correct myself because I said the AAP recommends against it. To me, it seems like the AAP is currently trying not to take any hard stance on the subject, since it is as much a cultural issue in this country as it is a medical one.

I don't know if you remember all the posts with people writing on their hands/kids hands "AAP - No Ethics"? That's because the AAP changed what they have previously believed or approve or something along those lines. A bunch of people lost their smurf apparently

"After a comprehensive review of the scientific evidence, the American Academy of Pediatrics found the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks, but the benefits are not great enough to recommend universal newborn circumcision."

the us is still fighting the 50s way of giving biirth. in the 50s it was considered a medical procedure and the mother was knocked out for it. they whisked the baby off to a sterile white room and wasnt allowed touched. they found out this raised ftt syndrome

The benefits outweigh the risks, but the benefits do not substantiate recommending circumcision??
That's not really saying anything, at least nothing that would help an indecisive parent make the decision about whether to circ or not. Which is exactly what the AAP was aiming for. To circ is a personal decision and they aren't gonna risk catching hell from either side of the debate.

I did have my son circumsized and their position on the subject still seems somewhat cowardly to me. Just say its up to the parents, don't even halfway weigh "risks" against " benefits", ya know?

Here most boys are circumcised. I work at a daycare and out of 20 boys, two are not circumcised. I don't know anyone personally who hasn't had their boy circumcised. Our hospital still routinely circumcises. I mean, they always ask, but it's just expected that it will be done.

That whole experience was horrible and (to me) no different than kidnapping. DH thought they took him to be circumcised because the doctors were THAT instant that it should be done. I tried to file a complaint when we left but was told "most moms are happy to have a break and not have to worry about their babies for a while" Ummm why would I need a break from a baby I've had for like an hour after having the EASIEST labor in history?

What's odd about remembering that two boys weren't circ-Ed? You don't exactly have to " count" two. And I don't find it odd that she remembers how many children (20) were in the class she taught everyday. Where I am from, I'd notice an uncircumsized penis too, because they are rare to see.

uh what? I know how many boys are at my center. Id be stupid not to. When you change all of the diapers its difficult not to notice when a boy is intact. Two isn't a hard number to remember... Lol. How is that odd?
