How early was your LO potty trained? How did you do it?

posted 2nd Mar
My son is almost 15 months old and he shows an interest in the toilet. He follows me in whenever I go and I explain to him what I am doing. He gets flushing the toilet and washing his hands too!

I haven't got him a "potty" yet but was thinking I would introduce it to him soon since he seems so curious about it. How do I go about potty training? Do I just set him on it after he drinks and when he wakes up? I'm not sure how to go about starting. Ive heard sticker charts are a good way to go but I think he is too young to understand that.

I will follow his cues but it's not like he has to be potty trained now. Will it affect him negatively in any way if we start trying now?

You never know until you try! I would get a little potty for him or get one of those things that go over a regular toilet and try it out and he might like it and he might not.

Boys are different. I can only share my girl experience. We started introducing the potty at 18 months. She was pretty much potty trained by age 2. She still had accidents from time to time, and still does (at 3.5), but not nearly as often. She's not night trained, though. I'm not sure how to go about night training her.

DD was potty trained at 22 months. However, she was showing interest in the potty much earlier but was not ready to potty train. Wed try every month but she would refuse the potty after a few pees so wed stop and try again the next month. We didn't do anything special to potty train. We put her on the potty every 30 minutes and she'd go. We never did and sticker charts or anything like that.

I've heard most boys aren't potty trained until around 3 so I'm wondering if it would be a waste to introduce it now!

Every child is different I don't think it would cause any harm to introduce atleast just don't force it

My sister started potty training early. She was fully potty trained by 21 months. She hates diapers and loves underwears. She would not go to the bathroom with diapers on. She wouldn't even let my stepmom put on diapers. Every time she had to use the bathroom (even with diapers on) she would keep screaming PEE PEE and then she either pees or poos when she's sitting in her potty. Once my stepmom ignored her she didn't know how to open the cover for her potty she just pooped on top lol. It was so funny.

LOL that's hilarious!!!

I think I will go ahead and buy him one! The sooner the better I guess, and I'll just follow his cues for now.

Yeah it's really funny. My sister hated diapers so much that my stepmom had to give them away. She jsut bought a new big box at that time too
Because when my stepmom was first potty training her, she kept saying PEE PEE! but it was just for fun. So my stepmom ignored her and yeah.. lol. It was a big poo poo too. I will be potty training my son early too!

I just bought him a potty today I am so excited to see his reaction to it when he wakes up from his nap!

Christopher got his first potty at 14 months, but didn't act too interested in it until 2yrs old and then it all clicked one day around 27 months and ever since, he's been potty trained minus poop and sleep.
