Calling hair ladies!

posted 2nd Mar
Okay I want to dye my hair like a red/ auburn and my hair is black so I know it will have to be bleached. So I figured I would buy the bleach and do that but I figured instead of buying red dye (I know it fades fast) I figured I'd buy the was able red dye would this be a smarter move or should I bleach it and dye it the "permanent" red.

You shouldn't need to bleach it unless you are going rihanna fire red. I've dyed my dark hair burgundy/copper tones before and had no issues with the color not taking.

I had trouble though I tried to dye it with no bleach and my hair is so dark it hardly took it just lightened it a tad bit

Then maybe you should lift your hair a few levels so you can good results. Do you have a Sally's near by?

A developer. I want to say maybe the 30 or 40 developer but ask someone who works there. When dying, do your ends first then go up to the roots.

Oh that's up to you. I always go semi permanent when I dye my hair at home. I'm paranoid though. I know plenty of people who go permenant at home and their hair turns out great.

I dye my hair red like once very six weeks and my natural hair color is black. Just go to Sally's and pick the color you want, and use a 40 developer.

I have darker hair too, and I just did mine red without bleaching it.. I used Loreal HiColor highlights in red [from sallys beauty, its like $6 a box, I needed two for medium length hair.] and a bottle of 40 volume developer. Mix them according to directions and voila.. red hair without bleaching! It works AWESOME!

Oh, that brand is specifically for dark hair, forgot to mention that. Im not a professional either, you dont need a license to buy that stuff. It cost me likt $18 total to buy the two boxes of color, one bottle of developer.. a bowl and brush and pair of latex gloves.
