Animal therapy

posted 2nd Mar
My son is 2 and speech delayed
His speech therapist said they were going to be starting a new program with a therapy dog at the hospital and my son was the first kid she thought of. So he will be the first one to try out the animal therapy.
He loves animals and sometimes talks to our dogs,I'm Hoping this helps him open up with her and start talking more and using real words.

If anyone has had a child in animal therapy did you see an improvement vs normal therapy without using a dog?
It will start in a few weeks and I'm pretty excited to see how he reacts

Aw I love that movie
When I was little and in the hospital they brought in dogs to help with physical therapy and to cheer up the kids and it helped me alot but it's different with speech therapy

I train service and therapy dogs...Alot not all but alot of kids do well with animals because they dont talk back and thats all they need to encourage talking sometimes adults being in the room makes it hard...for some kids they need therapy animals that repeat words back...It cant hurt him to try this I hope he at least has fun and all else fails it may at least be able to show you what your child needs to improve ...If the dog is trained for it perhaps ask if they can play together on their own with adults supervising of course but enough out of the way so they are not interfering with him and how he interacts with the dog I see that alot a handlers or therapist will really over crowd the child and not just let them adjust and play with the animal and give them the chance to open up with them because they hover and try to interject themselves to much

Yeah
She's tried alot of techniques with him and learned he does better when she doesn't talk alot to him,he reacts better when she just watches and doesn't say anything
He has been doing better the past week but still needs alot of catching up to do
