decorating the nursery - opinions?

i have about 4-5 weeks to finish jeremiah's nursery. it's all put together i just need to finish ordering stuff & decorate it.

this is what i *plan* on doing:
i am obviously doing cat & the hat. i thought this would be cute so it isn't so overwhelmed with characters? red curtains (they will be the shorter ones though that go right to the sill) with black/white chevron valence, a black/white chevron rug, black/white chevron crib skirt, cat & the hat sheet (i will also put a red pillow or 2 in his crib for decoration - obviously take them out when he is in there but i am not using a bumper so i figured it would add to it?), cat & the hat hamper, cat & the hat lamp shade on a red lamp. the bookshelf is red but it isn't finished yet. also instead of using the wall decal i am going to make/print my own cute dr suess quotes in the colors of the stars on the bedset and hang them up like 3 in a row/framed above his crib.

this is the bookshelf. it is being made and will be all red with black trim.

this is what it looks like, now. the wood is all black. the swing, car seat, and rock n play are just being stored there until he arrives.

That sounds like it's going to be a very nice looking nursery. I like the idea for the curtains and doing your own Dr. Seuss quotes. I can't wait to see it!

you don't think it might be too much chevron? i am nervous it is going to make me hallucinate lmao. and thanks. i want it to be perfect since the girls didn't really have "nice" ones and we can actually do it now.

You have a lot left to do but it sounds adorable! Definitely posts pictures of it when its complete.

I don't think so   You don't want to get motion sickness whenever you walk into his room. I think the walls will offset it. I love that bookshelf too. I hear you, I wanted one of my kids to have a nice nursery...didn't work out that way for me.

we tried with alana but it was SOOO TINY!!!! vero shared a room with us until we got our own place so that wasn't going to happen lmao. i was going to put wall decals of dr suess characters but i think it'll be too much with all the pattern going on.

Haha, that's what happens when you have kids and you're young and not financially stable. If I have another kid, I'm going all out with a fancy nursery, gender reveal party, professional maternity photos...all that jazz  
The decals would be cute but that might be a little excessive. After you do the quotes, you could always go back and add stuff if you think the walls are still bare.

i was just telling the girls in my DD group i might do the quotes today bc i can print them at home and go buy cheap dollar store frames. it is amazing how i thought i had so much money back then to do whatever i wanted =x. no, life was just cheaper and dumb things were more important to me.

I have a Dr.Seuss nursery so of course I love the idea. Although mine is all the characters not just Cat in the Hat and it's for my daughter. I have lots of pics of it if you want to see but the look is totally different than yours so it may not be any help. Also I've seen those bookshelves before online and wanted one but they were outrageous   Are you buying one or is someone building it?

can i see pics please!? and it is being built for only $300 plus my mom paid for the material, so it came out to like $500. my dad has a friend whose father owns a custom furniture business so they agreed to make it for me cheaper than normal as a baby gift. if you call that a gift? lol.
