Carseat-smart people?

posted 2nd Mar
I have a dilemma.
I need to fit my kids three-wide in the car. All three of them are in car seats. One being rear-facing. My oldest kids are 5 & almost 4. I NEED them in a 5-pt harness. That isn't an option. They are currently using Nautilus seats that fit them very well, but the Nautilus seats are way too bulky. Next year my mom is picking them up from school so they will need new car seats anyways to use as spare seats in my mother's car. I plan to put their Nautilus seats in her car and just get them two new, slim-fitting seats.

Here is the problem. I need to find two seats that will fit next to a MyRide. I have a van, but the back row is very narrow. I need two seats comparable to the Diono Radian. Are there any other seats, besides the Harmony Defender, that are just as slim as the Radian?? I don't really need the Radian seats because they are both FF in the car now, and I plan to have my youngest use his MyRide until he is FF.

I honesty think the Harmony is probably your only other option as of right now. That or get a slimmer RF seat.

I considered that, but my older kids will need spare seats for my mom's car anyways. DS starts school and she's picking him up after school a few days a week because DH & I work out of town, and she is taking DD every day instead of daycare because I'm unhappy with her daycare situation. It would be a total pain in the ass to have to switch their car seats in and out of my car every day... so I might as well get new ones.

The Harmony Defender looks like a piece of junk, though and is incredibly ugly IMO. I like the Radian seats, they used to have them when they were younger until I totaled my car- but I really don't need to be paying for the RF option that they won't use.

Gah... guess it looks like I'll have to go with that seat anyways. Maybe my younger kids can get some use out of them, too?

How wide is it at it's widest point? The Radian/Defender are 17inches at their widest point, apparently.

Yes, and I could use the MyRide for the newb that we're expecting BUT I need spare seats for my older kids anyways for my moms' car... so I'd have to buy them new seats as it is.

My only concern is the height limit on it is 5 inches shorter than the Nautilus, which is a huge difference in terms of how long a child will be able to use the seat. That could be another 2 years of 5pt harness use. :/
