Those snacks aren't really going to fill you up lol..eat something hearty.... its okay to count calories just don't get crazy with it..baby still needs extra nutrients & calories no matter the gestation.. i started out being very meticulous about what i ate.. i didn't have morning sickness & i didn't have cravings.. however at almost 19 weeks i've been craving burgers & pizza   i've gained 6 lbs so far, so not bad.. but i've tried to avoid bad stuff.... to fill myself up i usually drink carnation breakfast essentials or a pediasure on top of a meal so that i don't get hungry & start stuffing my face with cookies and chips (which i did do once..maybe twice hahaha) i also carry special k bars, nutragrain bars, and that sort with me if i get hungry.. it seems to help because i don't go searching to eat a whole ton.. sometimes i'll eat a banana and some milk as a snack.

When your body is telling you you are hungry it means you need the food and calories...so eat. Your baby needs the nutrients and calories to grow. You should not diet while pregnant.

I just had a nutrition visit with my midwife. She said the first trimester is survival. Whatever works.

Now that I'm in my 2nd trimester she recommended I be more diligent about intake and try to limit my weight gain to 20-25lbs. My midwife practice bases weight recommendations based on BMI. My BMI is 27%. I'm 15 weeks and have gained 4lbs.

I ate like a pig in my first trimester lol i haven't gained much.. i think it depends what you eat along with how much... like you'll be fine if you eat a entire carton of strawberries.. but you don't wanna eat a entire bag of chips... KWIM? you just don't want empty calories.. fried foods suck for filling me up.. i just get grossed out with the grease after a while haha. i would go to sonnys bbq here & stuff myself with bbq pulled pork & greenbeans lol now my stomach is smaller =/ so i just have one of my shakes & a snack bar (along with lunch).. it helps! i don't feel hungry for a few hours after.. maybe once the baby takes up more room in there you won't feel as hungry anymore?!

Eat stuff with lower calories and lots of fiber and protein so you can eat more often and feel satisfied longer. You should snack through out the day. In the early stages of pregnancy its common to feel hungery every 2 hours and when you feel hungery you need to eat. Buy some raw almonds. They are great to curb appetites

Just so no one jumps in here and starts saying you have to eat for two.....

Generally pregnant women only need about 300 more calories a day than non-pregnant women.

Just eat a lot of healthy fresh foods. Stock up on carrots and celery. I absolutely LOVE carrot chips with a light ranch dressing. Best snack ever!

I just found out I'm expecting number 4 as well and I also started this pregnancy at 152lbs which is about 10-15 lbs more than my normal weight. I wouldn't endorse dieting perse but rather a healthy lifestyle change that may lead to better weight management. I started eating only when I actually felt hungry, not snacky, and starting with a drink of water to see if it was thirst masquerading as hunger. When I did eat I would chose something high in fibre and protein to keep me feeling full longer. I also got back I to exercising regularly. As a result I am now six weeks or so and down to 144 lbs, only 2 lbs up from my max normal weight.
