When is a cough a concern in a 5 year old?

Itstarted a couple days ago and is getting worse, she is coughing bad and it sounds "wheezey". Ad maybe slightly barky. She has a fever too and is gagging from all ghe coughing and is miseerable. I feel terrible.
Im going to make her some homemade cough tonic just see if it helps, it wont hurt to try, but i noticed she had a seizure that was longer than the norms. I know she is getting really sick when this happens. I almost feel like she is breathing harder too, ya know. Does this sound like croup? I will most likely call the after hours peds when the lines open at 1 or 2. She is just laying here next to me, eyes half open and breathing heavy. im worried.

If its croup it would be worse at night, cool air helps it, and she wouldn't have a fever unless ah has something else too.
Do you think she could have been exposed to pertussis (whooping cough) anywhere? That would cause a fever and barking cough.

Is it considerably worse at night?? Croup get MUCH worse at night time. My son gets it at least once a winter and there is nothing the doctors can do for it unless she has a preexisting respiratory condition like asthma. In that case they can administer breathing treatments.
Is she complaining about her throat at all? Is there a lot of phglem?

You can get pneumonia at any age, my son had it when he was 13 months and I had it repeatedly as a toddler. If you are concerned about that I would get her in. Pneumonia can be really dangerous for little ones.

If she has had this cough for a little while it could have turned into pneumonia. Its common. Id have her seen, for sure today. Some antibiotics and maybe a neb sound to be in order.
Hope she feels better. My LO had pneumonia last month. Not fun.
