Paranoid... PPD?

posted 2nd Mar
Hi ladies, DS was born on the 31st of January and lately I've caught myself having some pretty horrid thoughts. I'm not quite exactly sure how to go about wording this but I can't help being terrified of something bad happening to him when he's asleep. As pathetic as it sounds, it's gotten to the point where I can't sleep at night because of the constant worries and what-ifs such as SIDS, choking, stuff like that. And when I DO manage to fall asleep, 9 times out of 10 I will have nightmares about him being gone or things like I mentioned above happening then wake up thinking the nightmares are real and l will jump out of my bed to go check on him. Maybe I am just an overly paranoid FTM, or should I be concerned? Ugh, anyone else experienced this? Insight greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Sorry for not being clear. The bad thoughts take place when I am both awake as well as asleep.

I am like that too, the thought of sids scares me so much. I bought a snuza go monitor for when my dd sleeps, because it monitors her breathing and beeps if it doesn't detect movement for like 15 seconds. It definitely helps me sleep better at night

I'll be sure to look into one of those for sure, thank you!!

I had/have thoughts like that with all three of my kids. I think it is just paranoia. Sometimes I will look at DD sleeping in her bed and just think "what if when I leave the room she stops breathing" and I will just stay with her and watch her sleep or move her bed closer to my bed so I can just look over and see that her stomach is still moving.

That's great to know considering I always do shopping on Amazon, lol.

I am sorry I just wanted to make sure. I had this.... like visions of me hurting the baby... I would call you Dr if you are having somthing like that.

Most Drs say to wait a little while till your hormones get back. But if you are having "visions"(that is kinda what I had, they are called intrusive thoughts) of you doing somthing then you should call.

If you are having more obsessive worrying and concern of things like SIDS then you might want to give it a while, But it can't hurt to call your DR

It's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one, that's for sure. Carter's crib is close enough to my bed so I can bob my head up and peek over at him but usually I run over to his crib anyway without really giving it any actual thought.

No worries, you don't have to apologize!

Luckily I haven't had any thoughts regarding me hurting the baby, moreso just him stopping breathing or some other sort of spontaneous tragedy happening. Now that I know it would be worth mentioning to a doctor, I will mention them to him at my PP appointment if things don't improve. How did you cope though, if you don't mind me asking?

Honestly i don't think this is PPD, I think this is a pretty common mom worry. Just like you worry throughout your entire pregnancy that something might go wrong.

I'm glad you think so, that's actually a good way to see things. Never really thought of it that way until now. Thank you for your input!
