Only child

posted 1st Mar
Moms who have only one kid because of choice or just that's how your cards were dealt, Do you ever get sad for your child because they won't be growing up with siblings? I feel like I failed my son for not having a brother or sister for him. He's 4. And he's super smart and sweet. But I can't help but see that something is missing there. He loves kids and really that's all he wants, is to have someone to play with. That's what he asks for every single day. It kills me. I just, I know how lonely it is to grow up without a sibling there. All of mine are much older than me and I was basically raised as an only child. I don't want that for Jett

I was TTC for a second child (we planned to have three) when my fiance unexpectedly died. Our son is now four (it's been a year and a half) and I wish all the time that I could give him a sibling. I always wanted children semi-close in age. But at this rate, if I have another child, it will be a few years at the very least. Makes me kind of sad, but as a single mom, I'm glad it's just one child because I feel like I have my hands full as it is!

Honestly, I had one child for 6 1/2 years and I felt that there was something missing because my little sister and I were very close because of a huge age gap between our two older brothers and our older sister. We now have a 1 year old (she was born in Feb 2012) and our now 7 year old gets along great with the 1 year old. They play, laugh and enjoy each others company. and I am personally the happiest I can be knowing they will have each other to grow with. It's a personal preference and totally up to you, but it does take some adjusting to because you're so used to an older child by the time the new one comes.

That's the thing though, it's not really just my choice it's my husbands too, and he doesn't want anymore. Had he not fooled me when we got together into thinking he wanted more, my son would of already had a brother or sister.

Yeah I understand it being from a single moms point of view. 2 of my best friends are single moms and have kids my sons age. I've talked to them about it and they say basically the same thing as you. I guess I just have to remind myself that he is not the only one. At least he has my best friends kids who will be only children too. They will understand each other.
