Messing with my first DSLR *pics*

Had my new camera for about a day now and still trying to get the hang of using manual... so no CC is needed (unless you can be gentle, lol)   Also been messing with some edits in PS.. which I've never used before until last night (I was sucked in to PicMonkey for a while, yikes!)

What kind did you get?

I just bought a Nikon d5100. LOVE it but I've just been playing with it too. I need to sign up for some classes

Canon t3... I just enjoy taking pictures and will probably never get in to it for the money... I learn best with trial and error and just figuring things out on my own so I don't think I'll be taking classes, maybe a YouTube tutorial every once in a while, though! lol

That's exactly what DH told me to do. Said classes won't teach me anything that YouTube can't. Lol

Keep messin! And don't use pop up flash.
Classes will teach you things that youtube cannot.

I don't have an external flash yet (It's definately on my list to buy!), just the built in one and I try not to use it, but the lighting in my house sucks and it was cloudy all day. I ended up putting a coffee filter over my built in to try and diffuse it.. lol

You've got a great start especially with composition!   Definitely invest in an external flash as soon as you can, but try to learn to make it work without a flash even in difficult situations

Thank you   I have tried so hard to do it without the flash today, but my kids are jitterbugs and just can't sit still lol. Even with a high ISO I just wasn't satisfied with the way my photos were turning out. And all the lights in my house are yellow which doesn't help :-/ I will definitely be looking in to making some tweaks with my indoor lighting and getting that external.

There's a certain WB setting that will help with the yellow lights   I want to say it's tungsten but I'm not sure because I just shoot with auto WB in RAW & then fix it post processing it need be. But yeah, try one of those out & see if that helps you

I did try that and my photos came out way too cool .... maybe I had it on the wrong one.. but I will give it another shot next time. I had to stop shooting in RAW for now until I can get a bigger SD card.. 2GB isn't cutting it, lol.

Oh yeah, RAW kills memory lol but it' so worth it when you get to the editing process.
