Amniotic Fluid

posted 1st Mar
With my 2nd pregnancy I was leaking fluid and they only figured that out because I went into preterm labor (that they stopped) and seen my fluid was low when they did an ultrasound.

Now with my 3rd pregnancy, I am 31 weeks and have notice that my underwear is wet. Like not just a little bit in one spot. It's like the whole crotch of my underwear is wet.

What kind of test do they do to see if you are leaking if not an ultrasound??? and is this something I need to call my doctor about right away or can it wait until my appointment in 2 weeks?

Go to L&D. They can test it to see if it's fluid or pee/discharge.
If you wear a pad and the pad is wet they can test the pad.

Well no... if you really think you are leaking fluid you need to call him and have him come home so you can go in... tonight. It's pretty important. If you are leaking fluid you could end up with a massive infection that could put you and baby at risk. It needs to be monitored. It's not something to just put off until tomorrow.

You can't wait 2 weeks you need to be seen promptly to prevent infection, they'll likely do a nitrozene swab to check for it. It could still be watery discharge, I've had my water leak in two pregnancies and when I had watery discharge with my third I really couldn't tell the difference

When I was leaking fluid with my 2nd they didn't seem to make a big deal about it. All they had me do was bed rest and an ultrasound every week. I never had any kind of test done (swabs or blood work)

That's the only reason I said about maybe making it until my appointment or tomorrow morning.

If they could prove it was your water and didn't put you on antibiotics you would have had a case for negligence if anything had happened to the baby.

Every case is different. There could have been a reason, maybe the leaking was different? I don't know, but it is still something that you need to be seen about immediately to ensure that infection isn't an imminent risk.

Also, had your water really been leaking and they were able to assure the presence of amniotic fluid outside of the womb they would have you on antibiotics and many times hospitalized until baby is closer to term as well as monitoring the fluid very closely. At least they SHOULD have.. Smurf my water was broken 30 hours and I had a MASSIVE infection. I thought I was going to die.

They just did the ultrasound to measure the fluids and told me to watch for weird odor or discoloration. After about 2 weeks they said my fluid level was back up and I didnt have to worry anymore

Well, they didn't give antibiotics but did put me on bed rest and was doing ultrasounds every week to monitor the fluid.

So did they not confirm your water was leaking? Did they JUST confirm that you had low fluid that could SUGGEST a leak? Because that is a totally different story.

Regardless, you need to be seen right away to make sure that it's not leaking to the point that you are risking your baby's life as well as your own. If you are soaking your panties, that's not a good sign. Is that what happened last time?

All I know was I was in the hospital for preterm labor. Before they discharged me they did an ultrasound and told me that I was leaking fluid. Then I had an appointment with my GP and he scheduled me for another ultrasound which said that my fluid was way low. They put me on bed rest and had me go every week from then on.
